Oil Change Day
November 19, 2011
What is the activity?
As you may not realize, many homeless people in our area have cars. Some loose their home because of temporary unfavorable circumstances but can retain their car, some have a car as their only place to be and store a few possessions, and many need transportation to go to jobs and rely on it to get around on their way back to more secure living circumstances. And of course, the dependency on the vehicles becomes more important in the winter time. Journeys from PADS to HOPE is an Arlington Heights based organization that serves individuals in Northwest suburban Cook County who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. www.padstohope.org We are working with Journeys to help their clients with an oil change and some winter preparation and I am asking you to donate a few hours of your time on November 19th. If you think like I do, that it is a cool idea to close our recreational driving season by helping others with the start of their most challenging driving season, this will be the day to give that thought some real content. We'll have a sign-up sheet at the next meeting and please give me a call or shoot me an e-mail if you would like to help but can't be at the October Club Meeting. I hope to see many of you for Oil Change Day.
The tasks are: lining cars up, checking tire pressures and topping of antifreeze and windshield fluid, running errands to get oil filters or other small supplies, and making sure that everything is safe and secure in the premises of our host Dave's Auto Clinic.
Dave's normally closes at noon on Saturday, but owner Dave promised again to keep his doors open and make his three lifts available to us for servicing the cars of the Journeys clients. Dave's mechanic Juan already promised to help out, as he did last year.

Dave's Auto Clinic
801 N Elmhurst Road (a.k.a. Route 83)

3rd Annual Halloween Run
October 30, 2011
The 3rd Halloween Run will be held on Sunday October 30st, in the North Suburbs. The Halloween Run does not include any competitive driving, there are no trick questions, and there will be no confusing in-structions. You just follow the gen-eral directions and this year we don't even chase ghosts. scoring will be based on treats. No need for tricks, just the treats will count. There will be no need for special tuning, no helmets are required, no penalties will be assessed, and encyclopedic knowledge about MG will not be a competitive advantage. It will be that simple! And the additional benefit? No need for arguments or fist fights with your co-driver or navigator.
We will meet at 10:00 AM at our house in Prospect Heights. The coffee will be ready at 10:00 AM and The Halloween Run starts at 11:00 AM. The Run is about 40 miles long and will take about 2 1/2 hours. We will finish at Flatlander's Restau-rant & Brewery in Lincolnshire.

Prospect Heights, IL 60070
Phone 847 909 7564
Directions:
From 294 take the Willow Road exit and go West on Palatine Road. If you come from 53, take the Palatine exit and go East. From both directions, take the Wheeling Road exit from Pala-tine Road, and turn South (that is right if you came from 53 and left if you came from 294) Please note that Palatine has frontage roads. The exits lead you on these before you get to the traffic lights to turn. At the first stop light on Wheeling, go straight across Camp McDonald and in about 200 ft. turn right on School Lane. Our house is on the left at the first stop sign.
Flatlander's Restaurant & Brewery

Phone 847 821 1221
Directions from the restaurant:
Flatlanders is basically in the NE corner of the intersection of Milwaukee Road (Rt. 21) and Half Day Road (Rt. 22). It is a little bit complicated because there is an Olde Half Day Road and a new bypass and Route 45 also splits-off from Milwau-kee Road right there. But to get home it is about 2 miles East to get on 294. Or you can go South on Milwaukee Road to any of the major East-West roads such as Lake Cook, Deerfield, Dundee, or Palatine.
Please call Reinout Vogt at 847 909 7564 with any questions and keep an eye on www.chicagolandmgclub.com, and Facebook for any last minute updates.
