Westmont Street Fair
August 10, 2017—5:00 to 9:00 pm
Every Thursday during the summer the Village of Westmont sponsors a Street Fair and Cruise Night. On August 10th MG was the featured marque. Bill and Jean Kalafut were our hosts. Their office served as our headquarters. Daughter Cecille handled the signing in and distribution of dash plaques. There were 34 members and 19 cars: 1 MGA Coupe, 7 MGBs, 3 MGB GTs, 1 Midget, 3 TDs, 1 M, 1 RV8, and 2 Triumphs.
After everyone got their cars parked and did some socializing, Bill challenged us with a walking rally along Cass Ave. Some of us were more challenged than others. I don’t have the number of DNFs, but the winners were: 1st place Doug Clark, 2nd place Reinout and Henneke Vogt, 3rd place Steve and Jody Sparks.
There was also a Peoples’ Choice vote during the car show. 1st place Mike and Cindy Michalak, 1960 MGA Coupe. 2nd place Reinout and Henneke Vogt, 1931 M-Type. 3rd place Phil Wydra, 1973 MGB. The traditional shot glasses were awarded to all the winners.
Dinner time. We were all winners. Uncle Bub’s BBQ catered the dinner. This award winning local eatery served fabulous pulled pork sandwiches, salad, baked beans, and coleslaw. Bill stayed up late the night before to make fresh refrigerator pickles (yum). Cookies were for desert. A contribution container was on the counter, suggesting a $10 pp donation.
It was as very nice evening. Thank you Bill, Jean and Cecille for a job well done.
