Autocross
This says it all...

The 2018 autocross season is over. It has been a very wet season. I guess it is fitting the season ended the way it started WET!
I think the rain was one of the factors to the low turnout from the MG club. I was thrilled that date we had six drivers. Unfortunately, not everyone wants to push their car like I do. You see I don’t fear breaking my car. I do enjoy fixing my MG. In my mind it’s just another part of the car hobby. I have been telling you about that loose nut between the seat and the steering wheel ;)

So to recap the 2018 season here is what I know. The CMGC had scheduled 4 dates with the Miata club. It rained 3 out of the 4 dates. But the Miata club still ran the autocross. I was the only club member that made it to all four dates. Dean made it to two of the dates. Tim Schafer, Phil Wydra, Steve Sparks (Sparky), Ross Compton (my son) and Dave Novak each made it out for one date.
Kevin Carlson brought out his 1969 MGB on September 2nd. Looking at his times he will be real competition for me next year.

Steve (Sparky) Sparks tries his hand at the course.

Talking about next year. We are looking to try our hand at co-hosting at least one half day “gymkhana” in cooperation with the Austin Healy club. We are trying to find a venue. We have one prospect right now that is rather expensive. We would need a very good turn out to make this worthwhile. If you are willing to come out and autocross with us next year for at least on half day please let me know. We would need somewhere amount 25 to 30 drivers to get into the same price bracket as the Miata club. We would probably model this much the same way as the past Healy Gymkhana’s. Only one car on course at a time. A select group of volunteers would man the corners. The course would not be as long or as involved as a Miata club course until we get a lot more comfortable with running this type of event.
Till Next time. Safety Fast
