Post cards from Karel
An ‘Auto’biography of History
Notes from Reinout
Two of the cars are American, which was kind of unusual at that time in Europe. Just in front of the MG is a Studebaker Hawk and I think that the car on the right side of the card might be a Ford. I have very good memories of the Hawk. The owner of a general store in the town we grew up in, had one. The store had a large separate room with toys and my father would sometimes take us there to buy a Dinkey Toys model. (remember those?) The only one that I still have is a MG TF. I always walked around the Studebaker Hawk a few times, with the new Dinkey in my hand. Dinkeys still remind me of Studebakers and Studebakers still remind me of Dinkeys.
Interesting is also that Knokke is in the Flamish part of Belgium. However, Avenue du Littoral is French for Kustlaan (Coastline Lane in English). Google Maps doesn’t know the street by its French name either and if you look it up in the regular Google, only real estate listings come up. It looks like Avenue Littoral is only used to make a property for sale a little bit more attractive.
