Chicagoland MG Club: Driveline November 2012

One afternoon it was a time for a change of scenery. I decided to take the limo out for a spin since I haven't touched it in years - I mean mechanically. Just before the British Car Festival, the MG felt a little sluggish and it had a light miss while shifting gears.

At first I didn’t think the Protonics electronic distributor was the problem, so I checked a few things first - spark plugs, spark plug wires, cap, rotor, oil and oil filter. Yupppp it turned out to be the Protonics.

The car drives well and the engine starts right up. Funny, after having the car for a long time I’ve just simply forgot how good that engine is. After continuing the check of the basics - tires, fuses, gauges, lights brakes, and body stress - everything appeared to be fine except for a right front sticky brake caliper. All is good. I haven’t cracked that engine since I got it back in the 80’s. Just upgraded the clutch and slave cylinder and a lot of metalwork and Lucas repairs. I've forgot how much attention that limo gets. Especially when some else is driving it.

Maybe something will motivate me to finish my grey MG clone but times are hard so the project is on hold. Got a chance to work on the brown one and it runs well. It’s for sale because I don’t have the space to keep it indoors. I’ll let it go to anyone who likes russet brown. The moral of this story is to not to let your MG sit for a long time; that’s when the stupid things start to go wrong from neglect so your MG gets angry and lets you know!
Safety Fast!

from our Vice-President

Happy 36th Birthday to our Club. It was a great turnout (one of the largest of the year) for our annual Birthday Cake and Champagne celebration at the October club meeting. The cake was a great as usual and the picture on the cake from our Lake Shore drive was cool! Good job Dino.

The fall tree colors this year have been a surprise to me, I guess that I was listening to the wrong pundits that were saying that it would not be much of a show this year because of the drought. It seems to me that this has been one of the longest periods of vivid color that I can remember in a long time. It always seemed to me that the colors would change in a week, then we would have a big rain and a huge wind storm and the leaves would be gone. We had the wind and some rain this fall, but the leaves just seemed to keep hanging on displaying their colors. Jana and I wish that we had been able to join Dan and Nancy on their Jo Davies County Fall color drive. We heard from several people that it was a great drive. Thanks to Dan and Nancy for hosting this drive. We hope that we can make it next year.

By the time you get the Driveline, it should be close to the Presidential election, and we should have some idea where the country is headed for the next four years. Which brings up the subject of the nominations of our club officers for next year. At the October meeting we learned the sad news that Dino will not be seeking another term as our President and that Victor will be stepping down as our club Secretary after many years of faithful service. I think that all of us can say that both of them have done a great job as our leaders in their respective positions and have set a high standard of accomplishment. I would also state that Lisa has been a terrific First Lady and that Penny has been a great club advocate! They are all valued club members. We have lots of great members that have stepped up to keep making our club a fun and dynamic group through the years past. We want to keep this a fun club, so with that being said, at our November meeting we will continue the process of nominating officers. If you have any thoughts that you would like to hold one of the elected positions or appointed positions, just let one of the officers know and we can fill you in on what the job entails. I am looking forward to seeing you all at the November meeting.
