MGs on the Rocks 2014
September 27, 2014
My wife, Julie, and I left Peoria shortly after 7a on the 25th heading down I74 to Indy. On the east side of Indy we picked up I70 and headed toward Columbus, OH. We had reserved a motel room on the east side of Columbus but since we had reached our exit by early afternoon we canceled our reservation and drove to Wheeling, WV for our first night's stay. 1st day's distance – 525 mi. The next day we headed for Edgewood, MD which is located northeast of Baltimore just off of I95. Along the route to Edgewood we made a stop in Hagerstown, MD for lunch at a German restaurant. Hagerstown was the site for the 1998 NAMGBR national meet.
2nd day's distance – 300 mi.
The morning of the 27th
we enjoyed a nice thirty minute drive from our motel to the show site near Rocks State Park. We sighted numerous British autos on their way to the show. The show was held at a 4H Camp which provided a large grass area for the staging of the cars,
pavilions for shaded seating, and plenty of extra space for vendors. There was also a DJ which provided music during the show along with prizes for guessing artists of selected songs. There were around 220 vehicles registered for this year's show. Awards presentation commenced around 3p and was held in fashion we had not seen before. The awards presenters walked to the individual car classes and presented awards in front of each winning vehicle – pretty neat! This presentation method started at the highest number class and finished with Premier. We were fortunate to win 2nd place in Class 300 – 74 1/2-80 MGB + Long Distance, having driven over 800 mi. to the show. Oh, did I mention the weather? Awesome, mid 70's , sunshine, and a light breeze. After the show we headed to a local brewpub for some dinner and draughts.
