Spring Tune-up
Saturday April 17, 2021, 12noon-4PM

Normally for the March issue of The Driveline when I talk about the upcoming spring tune-up I like to mention that the birds are singing and that the grass is appearing thru the snow. But as I write this (February 19th) we are still up to our wheel wells (I was going to mention a certain anatomy part, but Deb said to clean it up) in snow, with more being predicted for the week-end. You just cannot trust that Punxsutawney Phil. Why would anyone believe that over-grown rat anyway?

But it is just seven weeks or so for the scheduled tune-up party. Here’s your chance to see some of your fellow club members face-to-face, or at least mask-to-mask. For the seventh year in a row (not counting COVID-19 year 2020) we will meet at Don’s Auto Ade in Warrenville. Six service racks will be available for our use. There is an Advance Auto Parts nearby but remember to bring your own oil and filter. We have to be done by 4PM, so check in with Cowboy before starting any major projects. Sam from Don’s will be available to mount and balance tires, including those on wire wheels, and do alignments for a reasonable fee. If you need tires or batteries call ahead so that they can be ordered. Numerous brands are available.

In case you haven’t been there before, Don’s is located on RT 59 about a mile north of the East/West Toll road. At this point in time it doesn’t look like we will retire to a local pub afterwards, but that may change.

SWAP MEET 2021 ??? For the last 24 years this has been the time when club members begin planning for our annual “All Sports Car Swap Meet & Autojumble”. Last year, we were able to conduct this event just before COVID-19-related restrictions were being placed on group gatherings. We were, in fact, just about the last group to use our DuPage county Fairgrounds site before the door slammed shut. As of February 10th, this event is on indefinite hold. Our usual site has been appropriated by local health authorities as a COVID-19 vaccination site with availability unlikely until early summer. At this time, we are hoping to secure a confirmed date and possible new location for some time in June 2021.     ~~ Jim Evans
