Chicagoland MG Club: Driveline April 2020

Monthly Column of Driving Events

Hello Everyone!!!

Wouldn’t this be GREAT IF ALL OF THIS CRAZY CORONA VIRUS WAS THE BEST APRIL FOOLS EVER?????

I WISH THAT WERE THE CASE……. BUT THIS IS NO JOKE and not to be taken lightly.

I want to start out by saying that I wish EVERYONE in both the Chicagoland club and Vintage club good health. It’s been quite an uneasy and unknowing past few weeks to say the very least. As long as we all stay in and bunker down and only go out for essentials, we will all get through this!!!!!!!

With that being said, the driving events scheduled for this month – on April 18th –The Spring Tune-up is undetermined to go on at this time. Bill (Wilbur) Mennell has high hopes this will still happen – we will have to see as we get closer to the date.
The Volo Car Museum was never confirmed for Sunday, April 26. I will follow up with Jim Compton but have a feeling this will be postponed to another month. I will keep everyone informed.

As far as May driving events, The Spring Tour (Fri-Sun) May 15th-17th and The Miata Autocross 1 and the LaGrange Pet Parade are also undetermined at this time. We can all only hope that our situation improves by then!!!

EVERYTHING will remain on the calendar as is. I will be in touch with all organizers on updates and I’m sure the organizers will keep everyone notified through Email blasts from Dave Novak.

KEEP YOUR SPIRITS UP!!!!! We will all be fine and soon enough resuming our regular lives and be on the road once again on our FABULOUS TOURS AND RALLYS!!!!!!

BE WELL AND BE SAFE!!!!!

Have a WONDERFUL EASTER!

Safe travels and “MGreetings”

Ever wonder what it would be like to have an air conditioned MG? I know some cars have it, but most of ours don’t. We just suffer on those hot summer days, at least until the sun go down. Or we put the top up, unzip the rear window and drive fast. Not always easy to do in Chi-Town area traffic. That’s one of the reasons that we are moving up to God’s County. Not very many hot days. And no traffic. You can drive on a nice smooth blacktop country road for miles and not run into another car, even if you have bad brakes. But you could run into a deer!

It’s not all fun and games though. Last summer we had quite a traffic jam. A sow bear and her cubs got into the dumpster outside the Duck Shack Café and both cars driving past had to stop and gawk. But you ask about winter driving? In Illinois when a driver skids in the snow all you hear is “OH SH-T.” Up north you hear “Hold my beer and watch this!” Of course you could just use your snowmobile. It’s just like driving an MG with air conditioning.

This should segue into the need for a new librarian. It’s been several months since the announcement that the club will be needing a new librarian. Let me just say that my phone has not been ringing off the hook from people calling to volunteer. You may as well step forward now before you wake up some morning to find several boxes of books at your front door. I know where you live.
