Spring Tune-up
Saturday, April 30, 2022

Don’s Auto Ade, located in the scenic hamlet of Warrenville, will again host the annual CMGC Spring-tune on Saturday April 30. “To sleep, perchance to dream…” Yes, you will be able to sleep in that morning as we are not starting until noon.

“...Ay, there’s the rub.” Does your car have an unusual grinding or rubbing noise coming from the suspension or from underneath the car? This will be an opportunity to put your MG up on a lift and check things out.

“When we have shuffled off this mortal coil…” Need to replace an old coil or tune up ignition parts? No problem. “...must give us pause.” Before starting any projects, pause and check in with Cowboy. All work must be completed by 4PM. Adjusting the valves? Probably OK, porting and polishing the head? I would say not.

Even though there is an auto parts store about a block away, I doubt that they have Castrol 20W50, filters, or other parts for MGs, so be sure to bring your own. Wheel balancing (including wires) and alignments will be available at reasonable cost. If you are interested in a new battery or tires (Goodyear and other brands) call ahead. We have not made plans to go out afterwards but will instead order refreshments during the event.

Car Care Safety Clinic for Seniors
May 14, 2022

Spring is blooming once again, and we look forward to the Naperville and Lisle Townships TRIAD Free Car Clinic Safety Clinic for Seniors, Saturday May 14, 2022 from 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 noon at Lisle Township, 4711 Indiana Ave, Lisle, IL 60532.

The safety clinic which provides a free 40-point safety inspection of vehicles driven by senior citizens (ages 50 and older). The event grows each year as the Triad organization’s outreach to seniors continues to expand.

Chicagoland MG Club (CMGC) member Jim Vondran coordinates the Triad car safety clinics each Spring and Autumn and really appreciates the enthusiastic participation of volunteers from the CMGC, the Chicago area Model T Clu, and the Windy City Miata Club.

Seniors are often subjected to unscrupulous mechanics who try to get the seniors to have unnecessary extra services. We rely heavily on the club members to evaluate the seniors’ vehicles and advise them as to what may or may not need attention. We began having the drivers remain in their vehicles throughout the process in 2021. This has proven to be a very successful method, as we found that many drivers were not aware of many common items, such as four-way flashers and why they may need them.

Vintage and antique cars will again be on display; most are vehicles owned by our volunteer “car guys” who help perform the inspections. .After their vehicles are inspected, seniors are welcome to park their cars and view the “classics and vintage” vehicles and have their pictures taken.

Please contact Jim directly at (630) 234-7102 to affirm your participation as team crew-member. Thanks to “car people” like the MG club members providing honest and worthwhile inspections, we do our part by ensuring are seniors are operating safe vehicles.
