Chicagoland MG Club: Driveline July 2020

books Library Muse

At the end of May Deb and I were up north opening the cabin for the season. It was her birthday weekend, so being the caring and loving husband that I am, I bought her a new O’Cedar model 14 broom with the natural fiber bristles….And that’s when the fight started. I thought that being quarantined with me for 10 weeks would have given her a better sense of humor, but I was wrong. Again.

I tell her that was just a joke and that with the C-19 rules being relaxed somewhat up there I taking her to one of those fancy restaurants where the captain prepares your food right in front of your eyes, (there’s more to dining in Wisconsin than bratwurst and fish fries) but when we pull into the Subway Sandwich lot she was not amused…..And that’s when the fight started. Again. We eventually make it over to Angler’s Inn for a nice dinner with cocktails, wine, the works. It was certainly enjoyable to get back to normal.

As I write this (June 16th) it looks like things are starting to loosen up here in Illinois. Hopefully it won’t be too long before we can get back to the lives that we used to bitch about.

Back in the May issue of the Driveline I said that June would be the last Library Muse from me. I was wrong, this is my last. I have finally passed the baton to Paul Pickley, our new librarian. I’m not slow in getting things done, but not fast either. Guess I’m just half-fast, mind your pronunciation. So out with the old and in with the new.

I guess that’s where I come in as the new Librarian. My name is Paul Pickley. I have been a proud owner of a 77’ MGB Roadster for about 7 months now. To say the least, I purchased a project. I have always been fond of MGBs since my father owned one when I was a child.

I don’t have many mechanical skills yet. This will all be a learning process for me. I am very open to any and all wisdom that is passed on. That is one of the reasons I took on the role of Librarian. I know I’m going to need some of these books.
Just a little bit of personal information about me. I am married with two kids. My son (Cole) is 13 and my daughter (Morgan) is 11. My wife (Ami) and I have been married for 23 years now. Hopefully this MGB project won’t put too much stress on my family life.

I am not as talented as a writer as Wilber, but I will do my best to use this to help document this adventure. I will be tackling many projects that I’m sure will develop into stories to share. Hopefully I will be able to tie those projects with library materials that are assisting me. As my MGB becomes a real car I know I’ll be enjoying some of these books for entertainment and motivation.
