THE BBC (Blount County British Car Club) BRITISH CAR SPRINGTIME IN THE SMOKIES DAY - This event is an annual one which gathers many British cars from eastern Tennessee and some from Atlanta and Birmingham. It is held at the Tally Ho Inn in Townsend, TN which is the door to the Smoky Mountain National Park. This event was May 14th with perfect weather for it. Sunny and in the low 70s without any wind. Approximately 100 British cars were on display.

The BBC erects a large, big top tent to provide participants a great place to sit, relax and tell their car stories to both friends and strangers. There are also vendors selling all kinds of car memorabilia and even leather goods. A silent auction sponsored by the BBC helps to supplement the proceeds from registrations. The proceeds from this show are the main revenue producing funds for the club most of which are donated to 2 local charitable causes.

The first charitable organization is ‘Hopewell’ which looks after orphaned children and the second is ‘Gateway which is devoted to older parentless kids that are 17+ years old and fall out of the state’s system. Almost $7000 was raised between the silent auction, donations, and registration.

Being in eastern Tennessee, there are many British car events around us to attend as there are active clubs in northern Georgia (Atlanta), Alabama and Kentucky. At our last meeting a number of these clubs/events were discussed to the BBC members in attendance.

As always, I should end by saying we miss the CMGC and hope to come up for at least one event a year….and don’t forget…. we have an open-door policy and lots of room for y’all to come on down!!
