(Continued from page 16)
At this point who knows what may happen. Electric cars are OK I guess but very expensive and not for long trips. At the end of the road there is still the problem of all that heavy metal needing to go somewhere…in the ground, I guess. There will be a quantum leap in battery technology one day and hopefully that will solve the problems with electric cars today.
For this “old-school” dude, if I want my next car to be an internal combustion Jag, the best I can do is to plan to buy one in ‘24/25. Let’s see what the future brings for us.
As far as the MG is concerned, that fate was sealed in 1980 between unions, poor management, and Ralph Nader; but today the marque is still strong through the many clubs across the US.
Mark has a 1936 Jaguar SS 100 Lavender Gray. Apparently, there were only 6 of these made and one found its way to Mark’s dad for restoration many years ago. The original owner passed away and Mark bought it from the family and his dad restored it. It is simply amazing the poor condition some of these old cars come in as and then the almost biblical resourcefulness David Davenport applies to restore them! It is painful to imagine the day may come where these cars are all-electric.
There is light at the end of this tunnel and that the fact that these cars are so unique and held in such high regard by enthusiasts that clubs around the country will continue to collect, restore, and show them to the public. Like the MG it will take more than batteries to kill this marque!!

Every once and a while you come across an ad published some years ago that depicted an MG in the photo shoot. Well, here is one that Jeff Powell found and shared with us.
Contact Slacks by Miller Bros.
Circa 1964
These two adds were one month apart in Esquire magazine. You could register for the drawing by buying a pair of slacks and filling out the entry form that is attached. Both of the MGBs shown are new 1964 models, one Tartan Red and the other Iris Blue. Did they give away two cars?
The model on the blue car should be careful as a misplaced left foot is going to put a serious bend in that aluminum bonnet!
