Tales of the Mongrel
“A Summer Without My B”
by Ralph Arata
For 43 years I have had my B,
And always did the work on it you see.
I am no mechanic, just school of hard knocks,
Whether a tune-up or the B up on blocks.
Occasionally, I would get some help from a pro,
But the B was all me you know!
I always had it ready for a summer ride,
Whether club rally or tour through the countryside……the B is my pride!
This year was different as different could be,
It was A Summer Without My B!
Mongrel is in good hands – that I know,
It is being gone over by someone – a pro,
His name is Richard of English Auto!
One day Mongrel will go to my daughter #2,
I want Mongrel perfect when that time comes due.
My problem is a summer without my B, I do miss the MG.
Every road in east Tennessee,
is a place for a car like an MG,
Seeing the sights from the B on the road,
Hills and curves and scenery a-la-mode!
I have the Jag and its OK,
It’s simply not B I say.
The Tail of the Dragon is a welcoming beast,
It’s best driven with the B to say the least!
Driving the Dragon is very cool in the summer,
But not having my B is really a bummer,
The family sedan although it’s a Jag,
Makes driving the Dragon pretty bad…..I miss my B!
I can’t wait for the Mongrel to be done,
It will be next summer when driving becomes fun,
I can’t wait for that time, oh gee,
This summer I really missed my B.
