Wine, Cheese & Beer Run
Drive with a Stop II
Sunday, October 9, 2022
Twenty-five Club members driving 9 MGBs, 2 TDs, 1 MGTF, 1MGBGT, 1 MGA, 1 outlier Healey 3000, and two other vehicles assembled Sunday morning on October 9 in the Deer Park shopping center for a drivers’ briefing and the start of the celebrated Wine, Cheese and Beer Run.
One could not have ordered better weather and the British convoy enjoyed driving a scenic route through Illinois and Wisconsin. This was a repeat of last year's one-day event that was downsized from the weekend trips first organized by John & Ann Schroeder, before Russ & Amy Mehaffey took it over in 2015. Due to the "lockdown" this event skipped a year in 2020, but Russ and Amy are planning to organize a 2-night weekend trip for 2023. Stay tuned for developments.
Not only did they orchestrate a great day on the road with straightforward directions and an optimal number of breaks but they also opened up their lovely home in Wauconda after the driving concluded for a gathering of the faithful around their warm and cozy outdoor fire pit.
Animated discussions and a feeling of Gemütlichkeit (comfortable ambience) prevailed as the day’s participants wound down and refueled with a variety of hot and cold beverages and homemade delicacies.
Russ was in great form as the day was coming to an end and had us all laughing after regaling us with humorous accounts of familial interactions.
Many thanks to Russ & Amy for not only designing the itinerary, but for opening up their home afterwards for a fun conclusion to a great day. And to all who participated! A great day was had by all!
