Chicagoland MG Club: Driveline December 2020
Upcoming Event

IT WILL BE A VIRTUAL CELEBRATION!!
Saturday 12th December 7:00 p.m.

2020 has been in the words of The Masters, a year "unlike any other".

Our end-of-year festivities, instead of a banquet with awards, will be that way, too. On Zoom! This will still be an occasion to dress up, in all your holiday finery, for activities which should prove fun and amusing (or bemusing?)

First, we're going to have a virtual scavenger hunt - with MG and holiday themes. Then, we'll play "Name That Tune" - with songs from the 1960s to the 1990s (with a few holiday songs for good measure). We'll even be able to provide a group holiday picture / mosaic with everyone - even if it takes more than two screens.

You'll need Internet access. The Zoom link, with ID and password, will be provided closer to the date. A laptop would probably be preferable to a tablet / Ipad or a SmartPhone. We weren't able to get together to drive our cars very much this year - but let's try to get together for this.

Mark your calendars for this Zoom party...a party "unlike any other".

Tales of the Mongrel
The Death & Rebirth of an E-Type
by Ralph Arata

I have written about a friend of mine from the Blount County (Tennessee) British Car Club (BBC for short), Dennis Clack who has a very particular interest in E-Type Jaguars. He and his faithful restoration wizard, Pat Walsh are simply masters in the art form of Jaguar restoration. Pat performs full frame off restoration magic. His mechanical, electrical and fabricating abilities are among the best in the US.

One particular project involved a 1965 4.2 litre E-Type which Dennis bought for $10k. Cheap? Well, yes except for the fact this particular Jaguar was in a accident. An accident involving being hit by a truck so hard it spun 180 degrees only to be hit on the other side again and then totaled. It was the "death" of an E-Type!
Dennis bought the car and hauled to his shop in Tellico Plains, TN. He and Pat surveyed the car and developed a plan to give this E-Type a "rebirth". I tried to imagine the magnitude of this restoration. The closest thing I could conjure up was I remembered, as a kid, getting these great plastic models with copious instructions and tons of small parts which had to be sorted out, organized and then meticulously glued together. The difference with this E Type was that it wasn't dissembled - that had to be done first. Then, of course, there was no copious amount of instructions! Pat and Dennis applied their knowledge and creativity to put it back together. Pat Walsh has restored approx. 30 E-Type Jaguars (among other cars). Pat's knowledge and skill sets concerning these classic cars is perhaps one of the best in all North America.
