2024 Amtrak Road Trip, Jan. 26th-28th

All aboard the Amtrak Wolverine train. Leave the driving to Amtrak, take a road trip with CMGC friends on the last weekend of January 2024. 

Most of our MG cars have been stored for the winter. Hence, the Amtrak Road Trip where a few hours on a train will take you on a completely relaxing and informative getaway. The Amtrak Road Trips are centered on some form of transportation, generally a museum or factory.

How we are getting there: By rail with Amtrak. “Train – 352 Wolverine” Departure is slated for 2:15 pm arriving in Dearborn, MI at 9:29 pm.  The returning train “Train – 353 Wolverine” departs Dearborn, MI on Sunday January 28, 2024, at 9:35 am, arriving in Chicago at 2:02 pm. Meet in the Amtrak waiting area one hour before departure at Union Station, Jackson and Canal, Chicago, or two hours before departure in the concession level bar.

What it costs for Amtrak: Amtrak tickets tend to become more expensive closer to the departure date.  So purchase yours early. You may be able to find a special price at Amtrak.com.

Where we are staying: Best Western Greenfield Inn, 3000 Enterprise Dr, Allen Park, MI 48101. $115 per room, plus 14% tax per night. Includes hotel hot breakfast.

Details about the BW Greenfield Inn: There is free breakfast in the hotel along with various dining options for dinner. Two floors of automotive art, most related to obsolete makes on original sales literature. Some fine paintings and photographs. Restaurant, lounge, swimming pool, (Watch Phil swim his 100 laps), hot tub sauna and exercise room.

Ford Museum: $30 each, $27.00 for seniors 62 and older. Do not pay the parking fee. Hotel shuttle available. The Automotive Hall of Fame is at the other end of the parking lot with 800 stories about the engineers and inventors (Victor Hugo Bendix, for example, without whom there would be no Bendix gear to rust fast on the early starters.)

Transportation from the train station to the hotel will be provided by Best Western, as well as a shuttle to the Henry Ford Museum.
