DESCRIPTION:Hot diggity dog\, time to get your poker  face on and join the CMGC on its third annual Hot Dog Poker Run!  \nParticipants will zip through country roads and enjoy the sites driving a set route while answering some not too difficult questions. On departure\, each car will receive playing cards. Additional cards will be dispensed at stops along the way. The final cards will be given when the participants turn in their score sheet. The car with the most correct answers wins the rally. The car with the best poker hand wins the poker run. \nThe route will consist of about 60-miles through Cook\, McHenry and Lake Counties lasting around two hours. Final destination is Superdawg 333 S Milwaukee Ave\, Wheeling. SUMMARY:2024 - CMGC celebrating the Summer Solstice\, Thursday June 20th
DESCRIPTION:THE LONGEST DAY (IN OUR MGs) \nThis spring\, some of us might have been fortunate enough to celebrate and witness a potentially once-in-a-lifetime astronomical event – a total solar eclipse.  Soon\, an annual astronomical event will occur – the Summer Solstice (Thursday 20 June). \nWhy not celebrate it – in our MGs?  What could be a better way to end the longest day of the year? \nSo…let’s have several clusters of CMGC members at various drive-ins / ice cream stands / hamburger joints in the area – north\, south\, west\, northwest\, southwest.  It’s very likely that there are such popular summertime carry out / dessert establishments\, as well as those that are chains or franchises (e.g.\, Dairy Queen\, Baskin-Robbins). \nCall up two or three club members who live in the area – and pick somewhere to meet. \nArrange a time – 6:00 p.m.? 7:00 p.m.? 8:00 p.m.?  After you’ve had enough to eat\, cruise together for a twilight drive with the tops lowered while you feel that warm breeze (without the hot sun beating down on you). \nAs the date is not on a Friday or Saturday\, it’s hoped that enough parking will be available\, whether in a parking lot or on the street.  Make sure to bring some of the Club’s “business cards” to pass out to curious (and jealous\, no doubt) diners or passersby who stop to admire and talk. \nWe’ll include this “event” on the calendar\, even though there won’t be a central meeting location or one main organizer.  Email blast reminders will be sent. \nTHIS WOULD BE WEATHER DEPENDENT!  Obviously\, if the weather is likely to be  threatening in your area (i.e.\, thunderstorms incl. hail / high winds) you won’t want to go.   (It might not be bad throughout the whole area\, though.)  Some of us might have to play it by ear\, and adjust plans at the last minute – by phone / text / email. \nLet’s hope for good weather on Thursday 20 June.  If you go\, take a couple of pictures and then send them to our newsletter editor for the July issue\, and submit them for the website.  It would be nice to see a collage of Club members and their MGs at different drive-ins throughout the metro area. \nThis Club outing is NOT an actual Driving Event – so NO points or dash plaques) would serve two purposes – marketing for CMGC and MGs\, and a way to enjoy the longest day of 2024 and the start of astronomical summer in our cars.

SUMMARY:2024 - The MG Tweed Tour\, April 27th
DESCRIPTION:A seasoned veteran in putting together original and unique driving events. Doug Clark is organizing yet another “themed” driving tour. \nDrivers meeting:12:15 PM\nStart: 12:30 PM\nStart Location: Starbucks – West side of Route 59\, north of 95th St. (Naperville Crossings shopping center)\nWe will drive our MGs in tweed attire (jackets / vests / pants / caps)\, to help keep warm\, especially if the temperatures are cool – and if our heaters don’t work well.\n(The group picture could look rather interesting…)\nWe’ll drive country roads in Kane and Kendall counties (about 40 miles)\, before arriving at the Edith Farnsworth House for a 2:00 tour of residential glass pavilion designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe\, a pioneer of modern architecture\, a notable architectural gem. \nThe total time of the tour will be about 90 minutes.\nA block of tickets\, set aside for us\, for  the 2:00 tour of the Farnsworth House is on their website per the below link:\nFarnsworth House Tour Tickets\nThe admission charge is $30 per person\, plus a $1.80 online charge. Tickets need to be bought in advance\, online. After April 20th\, unsold tickets in the ticket block will be released. (It still could be possible to buy them through the website.)\nWe will arrive in the car park which is close to the Visitors Center. Golf carts are available for transport from the Visitor Center to the House (½ mile). DESCRIPTION:“A-Hunting We Will Go!” (MG’s\, that is!) \nCMGC & VMGCC members are encouraged to drive our LBC’s on a fall afternoon for a couple of hours on country roads near the lower Fox River. \nBefore we start “hunting”\, feel free to have lunch at noon at Gray’s Mill Estate in Montgomery\, and spend some time looking around this former mill that has been converted into a restaurant and bar. If the weather is decent\, we can eat seated on the deck that overlooks the river. \nNavigators are strongly encouraged. Why not bring a guest – especially a younger one\, so that we can introduce them to the pleasures of vintage British sports cars. \nWe’ll start along the (Fox) River\, and we’ll end up along the (Illinois) River – at the Dockside Bar and Grill in Ottawa. \nOn route well be several historical sites – either for a brief stop along the way\, or for a longer stop afterwards. \nBring a jacket\, and folding chairs\, as we might want to sit outside (weather permitting) at the end of the Hunt. \nLunch at 12 noon at the historic:\nGray’s Mill Estate\n211 N.
