Peter Ustinov was a genius in many ways. One of his classics is "The Grand Prix of Gibraltar". This is less well known today but deserves to come back into the limelight as it is as funny and relevant today as it ever was. The Grand Prix of Gibraltar was released in 1958 and is solely voiced by Ustinov itself. The work is in eight chapters and is as funny as it is whimsical.
If you have any passing interest in the history of Grand Prix racing you'll recognise a lot of the characters in this work. Great grand-prix characters such Phil Hill, Neubauer, Sterling Moss and others are parodied perfectly. The premise is of course ridiculous and this only adds to its charm.
The irony of this is that it is still as funny as when it was released and that Grand Prix racing is just as ridiculous today as it is in this parody.
Sadly a lot of racing fans might not get this but it is a classic that deserves greater recognition today. This is perhaps Ustinov's greatest moment and this is as funny as anything that Peter Sellers ever came up with.
