Secrets of Jo Daviess County Tour #5
June 18-20, 2010

Sunday morning arival for "breakfast" (tasting) at the winery

13 cars and 25 people had a rousting good time, mostly for driving about 400 miles of winding hilly roads in NW Illinois an SW Wisconsin in two days. Places of interest included a wind farm, Nick's Cafe, Potosi Brewery, Schurman's cheese store, some of the infamous County Road C, a run along the Mississippi River, Lock and Dam #9, the Firehouse Restaurant in Viroqua, Wisconsin, tasting at a winery, a municipal park on the Wisconsin River, a Culver's reataurant (which some had never frequented before), and Baumgartner's cheese shop. Add to this the distance to get to NW Illinois and to return from Monroe, Wisconsin, and most people would drive their MGs 650 to 700 miles in three days (some farther).

Storm Rolling In

Storm Hits

Friday afternoon brought near catastrophic conditions as most of the tour participants had to drive through a storm front with severe rain and high winds. One couple in their MGB found some trees dancing across the road in front of them but managed to back out of it quickly. No one chickened out, and all cars arived safely.
