Amtrak Road Trip: February 3rd – 5th, 2023
Most of our cars are stored for the winter and we might not want to drive under some winter conditions anyway. Hence, the Amtrak Road Trip where a few hours off from work on Friday can be made to a completely relaxing and informative getaway. Amtrak Road Trips are centered on some form of transportation, generally a museum or factory that can be reached on Amtrak.
This Year….Travel with a room to move and even to walk around with CMGC friends on the first weekend of February 2023on an Amtrak Wolverine train. Where we are going: Ford Museum, Dearborn, Michigan.
How we are getting there: Amtrak. Meet in the Amtrak waiting area one hour before departure at Union Station, Jackson and Canal, Chicago. Or two hours before departure in the concession level bar.
What it costs for Amtrak: $145 per person round trip before any discounts that may be available. Amtrack tickets tend to become more expensive closer to the departure date. You may be able to find a special price at Amtrak.com.
Where we are staying: Best Western Greenfield Inn, Allen Park, Michigan. $115 per room, includes hotel hot breakfast. Details for the BW Greenfield Inn: Two floors of automotive art, most related to obsolete makes on original sales literature. Some fine paintings and photographs. Restaurant, lounge, swimming pool, hot tub sauna and
exercise room.
Ford Museum: $30 each, may be discounted for age. Do not pay the parking fee. Hotel shuttle available. The Automotive Hall of Fame is at the other end of the parking lot with 800 stories about the engineers and inventors (Victor Hugo Bendix, for example, without whom there would be no Bendix gear to rust fast on the early starters.)
