Fuel Pump: Sucking Air
On 9/13/2006, Wes Roswold wrote:
If your MG engine suddenly stops dead and there is no sign of life at all, check to see if fuel is present at the fuel filter output in the engine compartment. If there is fuel in the tank and no fuel in the engine compartment, then check the fuel fittings on the fuel pump before you do anything else. If you find the input fitting loose, the pump is pumping air instead of fuel. Tightening the fitting takes only a few minutes and can be done right on the car. These fittings are of right angle design and can unscrew themselves (in time) due to the torque load applied by the rubber hoses connected to them. If they were in-line design, this couldn't happen.
