Wine, Cheese, Beer and Pioneers Tour 2007! - September 15-16, 2007

Ann and I have just returned from planning the route for the third annual CMGC Wine, Cheese, and Beer tour, which we are calling Wine, Cheese, Beer and Pioneers tour!
Ann and I will drive to Rockford on Friday, September 14th, spend the night and go to dinner. I reserved a block of 10 rooms at the Quality Inn and Suites. If you want to join us Friday, I have two rooms left in my block. Others may be available when these are gone. If you want to join us email me for a confirmation number for one of the last two rooms in my block. We will have a great dinner and get an early start for the weekend. I also need to get a count for the restaurant.
We will start the tour from the Rockford hotel parking lot at 8:30 AM Saturday morning. We will cruise some of Wisconsin’s great MG roads in the morning and arrive at Old World Wisconsin for an afternoon of fun. Lunch will be at OWW’s Clausing Barn restaurant. It is, most appropriately for us, OCTAGONAL! We sampled the fare and found it pretty exceptional.
When we planned the route we had dinner at Randy’s Fun Hunter Brewery and Restaurant in Whitewater, Wisconsin. Their food is excellent and the beer is unbelievable. We tried two of the dishes that will be on our abbreviated menu. I also tried two of their beers brewed on the premises. They normally have 5 or 6 of their beers available. They offer growlers of beer to go (for the parking lot party).
We will be staying at the Amerihost Inn in Whitewater, Wisconsin on the 15th of September. I have reserved a block of rooms under Chicagoland MG Club. The room rate is S70.30 + 10.5% tax. The block expires August 15, so please reserve your rooms as soon as possible. We ran out of rooms last year and several couples had to find other accomodations. The hotel’s phone number is 262-472-9400, the block is reserve under the Chicagoland MG Club. We stayed in the hotel while we were driving the route and it is very pleasant, has a pool, and a site for the parking lot party. As of July 13th we had more than half the rooms reserved.
We will leave Whitewater Sunday morning to complete our drive through the scenic back roads of Wisconsin, stopping at New Glarus for a visit to their winery. We will have lunch at the New Glarus hotel as we did the first year. They have assured me they will have plenty of their home made Honey Mustard available for those who want to take some home. We had originally planned to end the tour there, but we will be sure to stop at the New Glarus Brewery to stock up on Fat Squirrel or whatever your favorite brew is. We will leave New Glarus, drive to Monroe and end at Baumgartner’s Cheese. That will be the official end to the tour. That will be the official end to the tour.
If you are attending this event, please let me know your plans and send me your email address as soon as possible. I will add you to my CMGC tour email list: I will send the final route instructions to all participants. Hope you all can join us!
