I can’t get over the fact that Fall is here already. Where has the time gone? It seems like just several weeks ago we were at the Spring Tune-Up in Willowbrook! And what a difference a year makes…or even three years for that matter!
We have just returned from the 3rd annual Wisconsin Wine, Cheese and Beer Tour and it was fabulous as usual (Thank You, John & Ann). While on this trip, Amy and I had somewhat of “disagreement” as to how long we’ve owned our A – she thought it has been 4 ½ years and I knew it was only 3 ½ (you know who was correct!). Proof was provided by showing her the title once we returned. So much has happened during these few years – I’ve been “down-sized”, self-employed, hired, sold a home (we were lucky), bought a home, moved and settled. We’ve also been very fortunate to find such great people and the organization of the Chicagoland MG Club. One thing that remains unchanged is our enjoyment of the car and club.
This driving season did not turn out like I had expected. We have driven the fewest miles in the almost four years we’ve had the car. Of course adding in 1,700 miles to/from MG2006 at Gatlinburg is hard to beat. But some hot-hot weather and long work days kept the A tucked away in the garage only to venture out on a few weekend days this year. I was a little reluctant to drive too much until addressing a rear engine oil leak. When it came time to plan for the Wisconsin WCB tour we had a choice: fix the leak in time or drive it as-is. Needless to say we made the trip and the rear engine seal is on the schedule (per Barney Gaylord’s remedy). So stay tuned to the website for this Tech Session!
Believe it or not we are already ten months into the year and it’s time to start thinking about next year in the Club; time to start thinking about CMGC’s leadership for 2008. I am completing my third year as the Club’s vice-chairman. With all due respect I am done (for now). Over the next several weeks you will learn of many (?) others that want to take leadership of this Club. I have only been around this Club for four years – three as an officer – and I’d like to know how it is from the “other side”.
Enjoy the rest of the driving season; there are still many events to attend! We look forward to seeing you all.
Safety Fast! - Russ
