MGA Windscreen Tech Day
January 26, 2002 - 9:00 am
Naperville, IL
Rebuilding the windscreen on an MGA roadster can be quite a tricky job for the uninformed. Disassembly often involves some broken screws, and you might think it easier to replace certain brackets rather than re-using the originals. Trouble is, some of the new parts you might buy these days do not fit, even with lots of patience and careful touch-up and modification. To make things worse, some of the new glass currently available is apparently undersize in both thickness and perimiter. This tech session (hopefully) will go a little better, as there is a freshly replated windscreen frame waiting in the wings which has already been fully assembled (sans glass). The glass to be used is currently on the car and known to fit, and the frame was apart just a few years earlier, so hopefully disassembly won’t be too difficult. We will be removing the windscreen assembly from the car, disassembling the old frame, installing the new frame around the good glass, and reinstalling the assembly on the car. Time permitting, the session may also venture into installation of new door pockets and kick panels, and recovering some of the cockpit trim rails. For more information call or e-mail
