MG2006 Update
Every five years all the North American MG Registers get together for an all register meet. There will be cars from before WWII to the end of production representing all of North America. There are eight hundred twenty-five paid regististrations so far!
Most cars from our group are caravanning from Chicago to Gatlinburg. At last count we have a total of twenty-three cars registered. Barney has placed a link on our Homepage to the convention site. You must register for the hotel through the MG2006 site to get the group rates.
On Thursday, we are taking a four and one half hour rail excursion on the Great Smokey Mountain Scenic railway in North Carolina instead of the bus tour to the Biltmore estate. I have started an email group to keep in touch with everyone. Let me know if you want to be included. We have thirty- five people signed up for the rail tour. I have a few spots left if you want to do the rail trip. I need payment in full by the May meeting.
The Biltmore bus tours are on Friday and Saturday. The Friday tour conflicts with the car show. They promise the Saturday tour will return to the hotels by 5:00 PM, so you should be able to make the awards banquet. Cocktails start at 6:00 and dinner is at 7. The Thursday tech sessions will be repeated on Saturday for those who don't do the train tour.
Our plan is to leave early on June 19th, and split the drive over two days. We will be traveling some interstate, but also a lot of scenic highways. We will arrive in Gatlinburg the evening of the 20th. I have started planning the trip home, and we welcome anyone who wants to drive back with us. The Blue Ridge Parkway begins in the Smokies, and a nice leisurely cruise north on the Parkway and Skyline Drive will be fun. We will depart Gatlinburg early on June 25th.
This is going to be a huge event for MG enthusiasts. You will see cars from the thirties through the end of B production in 1980. I believe Reinout and Henneke's M will be among the earliest cars at the show.
We all hope you can join us, it is a great time.
You have to register on the web site to get information. You do not have to commit to going or pay anything. I agree the web site is a pain to navigate, but perseverance certainly pays off in this case. If you need more information, contact Diana or me.
