The Steering Column
Left Hand Drive
from your President
Greetings Everyone,
The driving season is in full swing. Top down weather is finally here and I have finally gotten to enjoy a little of the fun.
The Spring Tour consisted of a lively jaunt through the countryside with a stop for lunch at Duffy’s Tavern in Utica. We had 16 MGs, 2 Triumphs, and a Mercedes join the fun. Wade had found some country roads following along some of the rivers southwest of Chicago. Our first stop was at the Aurora Airport for a brief inspection of the classic planes and helicopters kept at the museum there. There was one gravel road on the route complete with a paved alternative. Every car chose the gravel road. We had a couple of other stops along the route to stretch our legs and socialize. Then on to Duffy’s for lunch and more socializing. Some of us went on to the Keene’s for light snacks and some very good beer from a local brewery. My neighbors TR8 is a lot of fun to drive.
On Sunday, May 15, we had our Spring Chicken Rally. Russ and Amy Mehaffey, along with Bill Hedrick, wrote a great rally. We left from Hammel Woods Forest Preserve in Shorewood, and drove near and along the Fox River, ending in Geneva. We had lunch at the Riverlane Pub, where Russ had arranged some Old Speckled Hen beer for us. Wade offered me his car and navigator for the day and we managed to finish first. Sorry, Wade.
My B is still in the garage. The interior is painted and waiting carpet and reassembly. I found my wiring harness had been really messed up by a DPO and have a new one ready to install. We also discovered the rear passenger fender was full of bondo above the arch and that is being replaced. When finished there will not be too many things left for next winter (I hope).
There were quite a few items for view on the memorabilia table at the May meeting. Thanks to everyone who brought something to share.
The Land’s End rally and Summer picnic is scheduled for June 11. Hope you all can make it, as I am certain we will have a great time.
Don’t forget to check the Driveline and the website for upcoming events. There is an Autocross at the Cantera cinemas in Warrenville on June 5.
May 28th through June 5th is British Car Week. Please make every effort to drive your LBC as much as possible. People really enjoy seeing our cars!
Hope to see all of you on the road soon!!
