Chicagoland MG Club: Driveline January 2014

New Directions
Monthly Column of Driving Events

Happy New Year! I am sure that you heard that a lot of times already. But this one is a little bit different. Of course I wish you and your family all the best for 2014. However, I would like to wish you a very fine Driving Season, even though that is not going to start for a few more months. I hope your 2014 Driving Season will include a lot of great weather, many Driving Events of the MG Clubs of Chicago, no technical MG break downs, and not getting lost.

Looking back, the first year of combined calendar for the VMGCC and the CMGC appears to have worked out pretty good with more events and more MGs. And it finished with the awards presentation with the two clubs combined, at the (already) combined Holiday Party. Looking forward, let's do it again in 2014. And you know what? Doing it again is in our own hands. We need to have members organizing events and we need members to drive their MGs in events. More of each of these is the goal; a few new events (a Lucas Memorial Night Tour or Rally) and even more MGs at the tours and rallies (if many MGs is good, even more MGs is better, right?).

And we need members to join us to some out-of-town conventions, the NAMGBR annual meeting in French Lick, IN in particular. That means that all of us have some work to do. We have to start planning the calendar and we have to make sure our MGs are ready. I know it is cold in the garage, but if you want to be ready for the upcoming season, order the parts now and get things in order. I promise to have the events scheduled and calendar done in March and if you have your MGs ready to go, we'll be all set for a great 2014 Driving Season.

As always, please give me a call at 847 342 9804 or email me at reinout.vogt@gmail.com with suggestions, ideas, comments, and concerns.

2013 Driving Events
Awards
The MG Clubs of Chicago

Moss Motors Trophy - Club Championship—Victor and Penny L’Heureux
This trophy is for the team accumulating the most points in all of the 2013 driving events. Participating in as many driving events as possible is a very good strategy. Unlike last year, we have no ties. The 2013 Club Champions, Team L’Heureux, outscored every other team with both the most points and the most events. Second place plaque award went to Ralph & Sue Arata.

Victoria British Trophy - Competition Championship—Phil and Sandy Wydra MGs are sports cars and competition is what they are made for. The cup goes to the team with the most points in rallies and autocross. Team Wydra competed in all four rallies and placed in the Top 3 two times.

Endurance Award - Dino and Malissa Perez
Most events without placing in the Top 3 in an MGB (or derivative)

Several teams come out to a lot of events but never quite make it to one of the Top 3 places in the Club Championship. Driving their RV8, in more events than any other team except Team L’Heureux, Dino & Malissa Perez win this recognition for the fourth year in a row.
