Monthly Column of Driving Events
The driving season is only a little over a month away! I’m sure you guys have everything in order, the cars are running, repairs have been made, washed and waxed to a nice glimmering shine so that our “Sweet” MG’s are ready to hit some roads!!
Please try to attend the Swap Meet this month on Sunday 3/18 8:00am – 2:00pm at the DuPage County Fairgrounds in Wheaton, IL. Jim Evans is organizing this event.
Get ready for the first two Driving Events coming up in April:
Kicking off the season is the Spring Tune-Up Organized by Wilbur Mennell & Dave “Cowboy” Bralich. This event is on Saturday – April 21st. All details are listed in this edition of the driveline.
Be sure to save room on your calendar for the Spring Brunch, organized and hosted again by Brian & Rosie Dubin. This is scheduled for Sunday, April 29th at the Bonnie Brook Country Club in Waukegan Illinois. Despite the bad weather they endured last year on this driving event, the turnout was great, and everyone RAVED about the “Epic” brunch buffet

served at the Country club! According to Brian, they are planning a very “interesting” drive through the beautiful scenic Sheridan Road and the North Shore continuing to Waukegan. This is a lovely day out that you won’t want to miss!!! Reservations are required. The details are listed in this edition of the Driveline.
Looking forward into May – A BIG thank you to George & Jana Phariss for hosting their 7th annual Spring Chicken Rally, scheduled on Sunday May 6th. Also, save room on your calendar for the Spring Tour scheduled on Friday – Sunday May 18-20 organized and hosted by Ric & Nancy Maitzen. I will have more details on these events and other events scheduled in May in next month’s Driveline.
I appreciate all the input and information I have received from those who were at the last membership meeting and the kind and informative emails I have received from all the organizers. Thank you for helping me make this a fun and successful start of the 2018 driving season!!
Now I’m getting excited!!!! Hope you are too!
Safe travels and “MGreetings”

The Library Muse
Several weeks ago, I received an email from Mr. Selway-Hoskins, the librarian of the Geelong MG Car Club in Australia. He had been on the internet checking our library inventory. I in turn went to their site and found both clubs had a similar stock of MG books, but of course the ‘local’ material varied. I found it interesting that Chicagoland MG Club and The MGA Guru (our very own Barney Gaylord) were listed on their tech pages. It shows that we are more than just a local club, we are part of a world-wide fraternity. Below is a copy of his latest correspondence. You can disregard the parts about the boats, that was in response to a question I had about their upcoming car and boat show.
“I can sympathize with Chicago in winter as I used to work for Ford in Geelong and went to Detroit several times - always in February or March which is in our summer sailing season!
We see the odd Chris-craft and Riva speedboats here but, in truth, our waters are not very suitable for speedboats. We live in Barwon Heads which is a seaside town on a river estuary. The river is speed-limited to 5 knots and outside the river, it's Bass Strait which can be

pretty evil.
I have referred to the Chicago tech pages many times and Barney is a mine of useful information. One of the nice things about owning an MG is being part of a world-wide scene and, with the internet, it is so easy to contact other MG sufferers.
After some years of owning MGBs, a roadster and a GT which we still have, back in May I bought a nice TC, so the MG bug has bitten deeply.

On their site in the library section you can find a downloadable 20-page coloring book of older MGs, ranging from Old No. 1 thru a TF. It is originally from the New England T Register, I believe. Just the thing to have on hand when the kids/grandkids start getting bored at the next MG car show.
