It’s Officially HERE!!!!
Driving season is kicking off its first event – the annual pring Tune-up, Saturday, April 21st!! Time to see all you MG gurus get those sporty little cars in tip top shape so we can cruise around all summer long!!

Ladies???? Maybe we should go and see if we can learn anything. It can help when and if the cars break down, (and they usually will at some point in the season) we can give our advice and input with knowing what we are talking about! You know the guys LOVE when we give them advice, especially on their cars!! (Kidding!!!)

With that being said, I was at the last MG club meeting and the guys were talking about their car projects and challenges. I chimed in with requesting that they give us ladies a “101” course in mechanics and speak in laymen terms so we can understand what they are talking about and at least “pretend to be interested”!! HA!

Although the weather in Chicago is so up and down in April, be sure not to let that discourage you from participating in the Spring Brunch hosted and organized by Brian & Rose Dubin on Sunday, April 29th!
Please try to attend this FABULOUS day out! The drive will be amazing through the beautiful North shore Roads and the Brunch following will be “EPIC” at the Bonnie Brook Golf Course. Reservations are required for the Brunch. I am hoping & anticipating really nice weather for this LOVELY event!!

The following weekend is the famously popular Spring Chicken Rally. This fun and challenging Rally is on Sunday, May 6th. For their 7th year in a row, George & Jana Phariss will be hosting and organizing the event. They will once again be gracious and generous hosts for lunch at their house immediately following the Rally. Be sure to sign up for the FIRST initial rally of the driving season. It is a GREAT TIME!!!

Jim Vondran will be hosting the annual spring Car Care Safety Clinic for Seniors. This is a really nice event and will make you feel “part of the community” offering your time and assistance for these dear seniors. Their appreciation and gratitude will surely put a smile on your face and on theirs too! This event takes place on Saturday, May 12th.

The WONDERFUL Spring Tour, hosted again by Ric & Nancy Maitzen takes place for one (1) day only, Friday, May 18th. They plan to rendezvous for breakfast and then caravan to Woodstock. There will be a tour of Vintage Sports Car, LLC and a restoration and repair shop. They plan to go the famous Village Square where there will be a guided walking tour of the locations from the movie “Groundhog Day”. Lunch will follow that.

Looking ahead in June, don’t miss out on the weekend of the spectacular Jo Daviess County Tour taking place on Friday – Sunday June 1-3 Organized by Ray & Sue Hansen and Tim

and Jamie Schafer. Please be sure to make hotel reservations and email Ray and Sue Hansen rayandsue156@comcast.net if you plan to attend for the lunches and dinners.

DRIVERS…Start your engines for first annual Auto cross which will take place on Saturday, June 9th.

The Highland Games British Car Show is also a fun day outtaking place on Saturday, June 16th. Not only will our MGs be on display for all those to see, but also, if you are a dog lover, I will be at the show with my adorable, SWEET Dandie Dinmont terriers at the “Meet the Breed of Scotland” area. Stop by and say hello!!

The remarkable Land’s End Rally, is again hosted and organized by our “fearless leader” – The President of the MG Club, Mr. Dean Hickenlooper and his lovely wife Kerry. This entertaining Rally takes place on Saturday, June 23rd

Last, the GOF is in full gear!! Ray Costa of the Vintage MG Car Club is doing a fabulous job putting this together for Wednesday thru Saturday June 27th – 30th! He is still looking for volunteers and help for this event. You can contact him on his cell phone (217-390-5300).
You will need to sign up for this and make hotel reservations. Please don’t miss this historical event, especially because it is so close and in a beautiful venue in Lake Delavan, WI. The schedule of events are endless for this amazing 3 day event.

As you can see, it’s off to a RUNNING start for the 2018 driving season! Hope I did not overload you with all these dates and information, but would love to see everyone at most of these events, if not all!!!! You can find all the details of all these events on the MG Website and also in this month’s newsletter.

Safe travels and “MGreetings”

~~ Jamie Schafer
