Chicagoland MG Club: Driveline May 2018

Autocross

This month in the autocross world. It’s almost go time! Is your car ready for the Autocross season? Neither is mine. At the Spring Tune Up we discovered my rear sway bar bushings are shot. That was good news because I was thinking I needed to replace the thrust washers in the differential. Maybe someday just not today.

Our First Autocross of the season will be June 9th at Boomers Stadium in Schaumberg. You will need to register up to 2 weeks before then to assure yourself a spot. Registration is done on the MotorSportsReg.com web site. The costs have been held to the same as 2017. However if you register on-site the day of the event there is a $10 additional fee. The Miata club wants to encourage

pre-registration. The limit for the Autocross is 75 drivers. You can share cars but each driver will need their own number. If you don’t have a number from last year, or it’s been a couple of years go to www.windycitymiataclub.com and choose the autocross link. Down on the page to the right of the event listing is the FAQ section. In that section there is a link to ”What number can I use”. Also several other good to know items. This should walk you through what you need to know. If you have questions please contact me. I really hope to see several of you out there with us this summer. It’s great fun. I’ll try to provide a demo of the registration process at the next club meeting.

If someone is really into photography I sure would like to chat about you coming out and taking photos of the MGs as they run the courses. I can’t drive and snap photos. It would be nice to get some new pictures of MG’s in action. That’s all for this month.

Even month’s location

The monthly meeting of club members gathering for livid conversation while enjoying a wee libation has run into a snag. The meeting place for this event on even months (held ‘down south)’ was at Roundhead's Pub in Lombard. Unfortunately the establishment closed its doors. Fortunately there are many sites along Roosevelt Road to take up the slack. We have agreed upon meeting at Anyway’s Pub in Oakbrook Terrace—about 2.5 miles east of Roundhead’s location. It has plenty of parking and was rated as one of the 10 Best Villa Park Restaurants in 2018 by TripAdvisor.

Hope to see you there!!
