A month ago, I experienced a terrible noise coming up from between the seats. Could it be a gearbox issue, a flywheel/starter pinion gear issue, driveshaft issue, differential issue??
Whatever it was it sounded expensive. After some troubleshooting advice from Steve Skegg, we eliminated for the time being the gearbox and focused on the driveshaft universal joints. Sure enough, the flanges were quite loose, and the grease fitting was sheared off. Replacing the U-joint and tightening up everything, the test drive was smoother, but did not eliminate the grinding noise. We focused now on the gearbox and determined something in the 1st motion shaft and gear cluster were at fault. A gearbox repair is in the works! (….To Be Continued)
See you on the road…
