This year’s Spring Chicken Run started at the same place as last year at the Deer Park Town Center shopping mall on the northwest corner of Rand Road, Hwy 12 and Deer Park Blvd.

The Drivers Meeting started at 10:30am with drivers getting their route instructions and course challenges. The drive took approximately 1 1/2 hours and ended up at George Phariss’ home located in Ivanhoe. We were greeted by George’s son manning his Shirley Smoker preparing the smoked chicken.


There was a remarkable total of 27 cars and 54 Members who attended. Most cars made the entire run without difficulty...except for Dean Hickenlooper—whose car failed twice during the rally and ended up beoing towed to George’s house for final repairs. The winners for the Chicken Run Rally were as follows:
Steve Sparks and Jodi Simmons – 1st place
Ralph and Sue Arata – 2nd place
Tim & Jamie Schafer – 3rd place
