Well the driving season is well underway, and I hope you have been precipitating in the many tours and rally. Don’t forget if you need help getting your MG back on the road the Traveling Mechanics are ready will and able to come by your home and eat donuts, take something apart and hopefully get you Back on the road.

This past month work has continued my Mustard MGB. It appeared to me that MGs come apart much easier and quicker than they go back together. I did however get the main body painted and with the help of a club member was able to get the door hung back on the “B”. Now comes the tedious work of all the little bits -- i.e. door handles, vent windows, window channel felts, (don’t you just hate rattles when you hit a bump in the road) tail lights, side marker light, head lights.......you get the picture.

The other Major Project lies over at Bill Kalafut’s garage there we are attempting to put his MG YB Solon back together. At first glance the YB didn’t look too bad but the further we look the more challenging it got. If this YB wasn’t so rare (only around 20 of them in the USA) I would have walked away but knowing this I couldn’t. The main issue is that No One Makes Parts for them. You can’t find a manual or even a picture of how it’s supposed to go together. So, we sit and stare at the YB trying to imagine what it’s supposed to look like and how to fabricate parts to get her back together. Only time will tell

On a more positive note The Traveling Mechanics did make it out to Pat Guest’s garage and made more progress on Maggie -- A MGB requiring new rocker panels, castle rails, inner rockers and floor pans. It’s been quite a welding ?? project so if you’d like to get some firsthand experience stop on by. The Lunch is Awesome thanks again Bonnie. She puts out quite a spread.

I was also able to find time to get over to Sparky’s garage and lend a hand with his rear brakes on the 1965 Midget.

That’s all for this month. Keep’em on the road and if you need help contact the Club’s Traveling Mechanics!

That’s it for now. Keep’em on the road!     SAFTY FAST

Is it summer yet? PLEASE!

Anyone know if an MG B can be retro-fitted with pontoons? Maybe water wings for those Midgets out there. My B leaks bad enough in a little rain, do I really need to test it in monsoon season? Okay, I’ll stop crying now.

As I mentioned last month, we were anxiously awaiting the arrival of our new grandson. Finnegan James was born on April 29th after making us wait for over 24 hours. Mom’s labor was very much like an MG. Lots of stopping and starting again. Now that he is finally here, I have invoked the power of grandpa, and officially promoted him to standby navigator.

Because Sandy and I had such a great time at the GOF held in Delevan last year, we took advantage of a spring special Lake Lawn Lodge offered us last week. It was nice, but without any of our MG family joining us there, it just wasn’t the same. What great clubs we have. The CMGC and the Vintage MG Club are filled with wonderful and fun people. We are looking forward to attending as many driving events as possible this summer.

Next week, my little red B gets to take a trip down memory lane. I found the car in Milwaukee, were I understand MG Limited did a lot of refurbishing work on it. Now after seven years I am taking it back to finally have that very coveted overdrive installed.

We are really looking forward to some highway rides with the new transmission providing lower RPMs. With less engine noise, we may even start to have conversations in the car.

As a side trip while in Milwaukee, the person I purchased the car from invited us to meet so he can see the ride he let slip away. We regularly keep in touch because he likes to see pictures and hear about our exciting adventures with his much missed B.

June is here so let’s hit the road. Wave if you see us,

~~ Phil Wydra
