HELLO MG DRIVERS!!!!

Looks like the weatherman was wrong again!!!! Memorial Day weekend turned out to be pretty nice!! Hope most of you got out for a spin, this time with the top down, not getting wet and a warm breeze on your face!!! Tim and I actually went to Downers Grove opening day for their weekly Friday night car show. It was a pretty nice turn out!! Many spectators stopped by to look at the Midget and we would hear the same old comments…”I used to have one of these in college, or “I had a B”” or “My friend had one of these”…then they would ask “what year is this”......and they always seem to have a BIG smile on their face reminiscing!!! That’s when Tim gets on his soap box in glory and starts talking about the car and the club and “maybe you should think of getting one again and joining our club”…Their great, fun cars to have!!!!

I just want to mention a quick recap on the Spring Brunch that took place on April 28th since it did not make my article in the May Driveline issue, it was a GREAT turnout! Besides the fact that it snowed the day before, out of 18 cars that showed up, including 4 MGs and 3 T-types, the weather cooperated and the drive was lovely and the brunch once again was Delicious as always!!

I hear once again it was a small turn out with our MG drivers participating in the Miata Auto Cross. Try to make the second one coming up in July and join and support Jim Compton…he would love more competition and help with the event!!!

I will have to say how I THOROGHLY ENJOYED the MGs on the Oregon Trail Tour, which took place May 16th through Sunday, May 19th. It was an EXCELLENT tour!! The roads and the all stops along the way were WONDERFUL!! Doug Clark did an AWSOME JOB!! There was a spectacular turnout of 15 cars, 7 of them being MGs. Despite a few rainy spots here and there, we all had a FABULOUS time! Everyone’s car drove fine, no breakdowns or any mishaps to report, although, Dean Hickenlooper had a brake issue -- his brake caliper came undone on the way home. Bill Kalafut and Jean Heasley and I were all caravanning home on Sunday when I see Dean flashing his lights behind me and turning off to pull over. Thank GOD we were on the back roads and not the expressway!!! – I called Jean to tell Bill to turn around and help out our fearless leader! Dean & Bill fixed the problem and we all made it home safely!! EASY FIX for them!!!! There is a review in this month’s Driveline to hear about the details of the tour!!

Coming up this month is the following:
The Lagrange Pet Parade/MG Parade organized by Doug Clark, which took place on June 1st. I hope many of you made it to this event. I DID!!! And I brought my two (2) four legged babies with me to showcase themselves and of course Tim showcased the Midget!!! I will have to recap on this in next month’s issue!

Hope you guys can make it on Saturday, June 15th the for the annual Highland Games British Car Show hosted again by James Brennan. There is still time to register your car. Details in this month’s driveline.

Last call to attend the two BIG National Events this month:

June 27th – 30th – GOF - Chesterfield, MO

July looks to be another exciting opportunity to participate in some THRILLING driving events!! (Am I enticing you enough???)
Saturday July 6th is the annual Lands’ End Rally hosted and organized by Dean and Kerry Hickenlooper. This is always a blast and challenging Rally!! Prizes are given out…..don’t miss out on the chance of WINNING!!!!

For this first time (in a long time) event, Tim and I are hosting and organizing a day out at the horse track at BEAUTIFUL Arlington Race Park in Arlington Heights Outing Sunday July 14th This will be a Spectacular day to gather and spend a lovely day at the track, even if you don’t want to bet! The entire experience at Arlington Park is a memorable one if you have never been there! The atmosphere is stunning and electric!!! There will be a place for all our MG’s to park together so spectators can “OOOH and AHHHH” over our cars!!!! Tim needs a head count to reserve tables and seating so we can all be together under the canopy with a GREAT view of the track! Contact him as soon as possible if you are interested in attending. (630)261-0212. All details are in this month’s issue.

Here’s your second chance to attend and participate in the Miata Autocross II taking place Saturday July 27th at Boomers Stadium in Schaumburg. Aren’t you curious to know how well you MG’s really perform???? Come on out and join Jim Compton!! He would really love the support and the competition!!!!
