Monthly Meeting Minutes
Third Monday, June 18, 2012
Attendance: 31 members
President Dino Perez opened the meeting at 8:00 pm.
Car Projects
Dino Perez noted that he had a car heating problem – but it was the Cutlass needing repair. The thermostat failed and needed replacing. The problem was the mounting bolt head broke when trying to remove. After a few hours, the task was completed successfully.
Jim Evans updated the electrical problem experienced last month (Tachometer jumping to 3K RPM and holding when trying to start the car) as a faulty battery lead connection. The connection looked and felt good, but after replacing and tightening the terminal connection the problem was corrected. Still don’t know why the Tach acted as it did.
Past Events:
Austin-Healey Autocross – 6/3 – This year two of our members participated in this event held in Warrenville. Joel-Paul Brossard took 1st place in MGB category and Seth Jones took 2nd place in the Midget series. Driver and car race against time through a marked course, hardly ever getting past 2nd gear. Each driver makes 5-6 runs through the course and assists with track judging assistance when not in the cockpit. No special modifications are needed on your car and minimal safety equipment is required. Joel would to have better participation from other club members for future events.
British Car Fest – 6/3 – a few CMGC members attended this event in Bloomington, IL. Barney was working the event with a "Stump The Guru" sessions fielding many technical questions. Barney relayed a story of the day involving a MG YT car mysteriously burning fuel at a high rate.
NAMGAR 2012 – 6/6-10 - Oscar and Diana Gonzales, Roger and Shirley Goebbert, Ann, and John Schroeder made the trek to MG 2012 in Dillard, Ga. The trip was long but rewarding. There were over 300 cars on the show field. The food was as abundant and delicious as everybody said it would be. The crowning touch was Oscar and Diana being awarded NAMGBR’s Thornley Award. them both. Looking forward to next year when it’s off to Corvallis, Oregon.
Tech Session – 6/10 – Chris Weaver provided his vehicle for a session involving a brake booster rebuild. Eight CMGC members attended the session at Jim Evan’s garage. There were a few problems that had to be overcome, but the job was completed successfully.
Garage Sale – 6/16 – Over 20 participants were on hand to bid on miscellaneous car parts stored in the CMGC storage locker. Windscreen glass, door parts, bonnets, brake parts, and miscellaneous bright work pieces were picked for a song.
Upcoming Events: - (additional information available on the CMGC website.)
Jo Daviess Tour – 6/29-7/1 – Dan Herman again reminded participants of the upcoming event and described the weekend’s agenda.
Lake Shore Tour – 7/8 – Ray Hansen noted that this is the first running of this event. Unlike other tours, this one will be in a urban setting with all its challenges. The route will avoid many of the congested parts of Chicago and focus on the north lake shore in route to the Goose Island Brewery finish point. Ray asked for members thinking of taking part in the tour to call/email him to get a headcount for the restaurant.
Road America Camping Trip – 7/13-15 – Jake Snyder reminded members to arrive early Friday afternoon (before 5 pm) so they can take part in viewing the historic car tour to the track. If you purchase tickets on-line, the cost is less than at the door for the races.
GOF – 7/24-26 – Dino noted that final details are being worked out with the Vintage Club for this event.
Miata Autocross – 7/29 – Joel again noted that this will be the 2nd of four events with the Miata Club. More details to come.
50-50 Raffle – Maynard Hirsch went home $8 richer after having the winning ticket.
Meeting adjourned at 9:00 pm.
Respectfully submitted, Victor L’Heureux, CMGC Secretary
