Monthly Column of Driving Events
It is summer in Chicago and your calendar should be full with MG driving events. Just check out the announcements in this issue of the Driveline. Many new and old events are scheduled for July and August: Road America, the GOF, Lands End, University Motors Summer Party, and Autocross. Hopefully you have plans for some or all of these. The summer is gone before you know it and we want you to enjoy driving your MG as much as possible. In this column I always like to spend a little bit more copy space for some of the upcoming events.
Russ and Amy Mehaffey are planning to make the Lands End Rally an old fashioned Land End Rally again.
Going out West and going quite far. That is the spirit of the original 19xx Lands End Trial in England. The event that put MG on the forefront of sport car news with the win of Cecil Kimber in Old Number One. Cecil Kimber started Morris Garages which later became MG and Old Number One was the first real sports car he built and drove to victory. The Land End Rally is the oldest and longest running driving event of our club. The last couple of years we struggled a little

bit to find a rally master and a good area to run the event. But it is back. Russ and Amy are planning to go to Starved Rock near Utica, IL. I hope to see all of you at this rally/tour.
Mark Michalak has finalized the Grand Lake Tour, a non-stop driving event around Lake Michigan starting and finishing in Grand Rapids, MI and organized as an official part of the University Motors Summer Party. There are two ways to participate in the Summer Party. Leave Chicago on Wednesday and do the Grand Lake Tour, or leave Chicago Friday and jump right into the Summer Party festivities. Either way, we hope that we'll see as many members as we used to when this event was still an annual affair. The club is planning a caravan on Friday and some coordination will be discussed at the next two club meetings. If you have any questions about the Grand Lake Tour, please give Mike a call at 773 858 6968 or visit his facebook space The Grand Lake Tour.
