CMGC Fall Color(less) Tour 2012
October 10, 20
Through past years we’ve staged a fall color tour to do some leaf peeping in various formats and with varying degrees of success. This year is even more of a challenge. The prospect for bright fall colors is not good. The drought has affected the trees and the colors may be subdued. In spite of this a number of our members have inquired about having a fall driving tour just for the enjoyment of a top-down drive in the country on a crisp fall day. So we'll do it! Only this time it will be a little different.
It will be a one-day event; the day being Wednesday, October 10. You'll have options to extend the time at your choice. We'll gather at our Lake Carroll home and depart at 10:00 AM for a moderate day's driving in NW Illinois. This will not be a long distance endurance run! We'll not venture into Wisconsin, but will drive mostly in Jo Daviess and a little of Carroll Counties (must have lunch at Poopies!). Among other things, we'll take a look at a Mississippi River vista, taste at a winery and visit a bit of old Kentucky at Council Hill Station. The day will close with dinner at a nice restaurant. We'll schedule the driving and the stopping so that if you are so inclined you can make the whole trip in one day and be home that evening. If you wish you can add a day on either side to make the trip more leisurely, or to do other activities that we can help you find. There’s a really neat rustic, romantic cabin type hotel near Lake Carroll with fireplaces and hot tubs that’s a destination experience in itself. Operated by nice folks, too.
If you want to tour with us please send me a message at danherm@jcwifi.com. I need a count for restaurant arrangements. If you need directions on how to find our Lake Carroll home, ask and I'll send. If you want to add on an overnight stay ask and I'll supply a hotel list. Hope to have you with us!
