At the last club meeting Vic reported that a feature film is being produced and they are looking for 1970 MGs. Bill Mennell said we have a new film in our library. This got me thinking about MGs in the movies. In the film Funny Farm, Chevy Chase drives his green MGTF both off a cliff and into a lake. This is not what you want to see happen to any MG. Another MGTF, this time red, shows up in the movie I.Q. where Tim Robbins is an auto mechanic working on an MGTF trying to solve, of all things, electrical problems (who would have thought?). In SuperCop, Jackie Chan jumps into a red MG Midget to catch the bad guys that kidnapped his partner. Robert Wagner drives and races his black MGA throughout the countryside inTo Catch a King. Ryan O’Neal has a black MGTC in Love Stor. I believe the famous line from love story is “Love means never having to say you’re sorry for owning an MG.” or something like that. Breathless brings us Richard Gere as a car thief. One of the cars he picks is a pink (yes pink) MGB. One of the realistic depictions of an MGB briefly appears in Seven Days, Seven Nights. If you watch closely when Harrison Ford is boarding his plane you see people under the hood working on a blue MGB. In Norbit, Eddie Murphy plays three roles and it takes three MGBs to play one role. There are many more but one of the best MG movies maybe Two for the Road with Albert Finney and Audrey Hepburn. Through flashbacks about their ten year marriage we get to witness their lives with their British Racing Green MGTD. In one scene Audrey says “You never should have bought an MG, you should have bought a tractor”. Who hasn’t heard that before?
These are all old movies but who knows maybe the feature film Vic spoke of will be a movie we can see on the big screen, and who knows, maybe a club members car or two.

I can’t believe the 2017 driving season is almost over already.
Where has summer gone? Well I can’t speak for you but I know my summer has been spent getting the new wing of our nursing home open for business. I won’t bore you with the details. But there were a lot of details.
September has been challenging as well. I went to Florida for a much needed vacation. Only to get chased out of Florida by hurricane Irma. I got to spend my vacation driving back home. Ask Bob about it — he was there as well. It sounds worse than it was.
On the note of hurricanes. I have some colleagues in Puerto Rico that we haven’t heard from since hurricane Maria hit. My hopes and prayers are with those recovering from the aftermath of these recent disasters.
I hope you were out at the British Car Union at Harper College. It’s always a great show and a great opportunity to show our stuff as a club.
I’ve been seeing a lot of thanks to Amy, Russ, Sue and Ralph for the excellent job they did with the Wine, Beer & Cheese tour. I wish I could have gone.
Bob and I have been learning just how much work it is to put together even a short tour. You’ll hopefully have seen the announcement for the Illinois Railway Museum tour, in the weekly email, at the September club meeting or elsewhere in this issue of the driveline. Bob and I are excited and nervous about hosting our first tour. We really hope you enjoy it.
Well till next month. See you on the road. Thank you all!
Safety Fast !
