Chicagoland MG Club: Driveline November 2019

I recently had the opportunity to attend my high school’s graduation class 50th reunion. Wow, I didn’t know that people my age were so old. Gray hair or balding, portly, and wrinkled. And the men looked even worse. I had always thought that growing old would take a lot longer. We sat around and talked about the good old days. Of course the best thing back then was that I wasn’t so good or so old. I always tried to stay out of trouble, but there were just too many other options available. I didn’t let school interfere with my education.

After the usual BS about how everyone’s kids were geniuses and the grandkids were all cute enough to be on a Gerber Baby Food jar, I was able to chat with some of the ‘kids’ that had been gearheads. Although I was a member of a small group who had LBCs (Healey 100-4) back in the day of American V8 muscle cars, we were all of a kindred spirit. Some no longer had ‘fun’ cars and had moved on to luxury type sedans or mini-vans to haul the grandkids around. How boring. When did their wild oats change to shredded wheat? But most of us had stayed true to our roots and still had hobby type cars or pick-ups. I guess that some of us will never grow up. Thank God.

All this reminiscing got me to thinking that in a few years ‘now’ will be the good old days. With this year’s driving season almost over, it would be a good time for event organizers to forward me a copy of their rally route directions, tour itineraries or other items of interest for the archives.
