Monthly Column of Driving Events

Hello, MY LONG-LOST MG FAMILY!!!!!

How I MISS to see everyone in their cars, gathering at the starting points of our driving events, cruising on our BEAUTIFUL driving routes and meeting for our lunches at the finish of our tours…. OH, HOW I LONG FOR THOSE DAYS!!!

I was reviewing the calendar for this month and was very somber to notice all the events that were supposed to take place this month:
6/1-6/5 GT45 NAMGAR (MGA) Colorado Springs, CO
6/1-6/5 NAMMMR (PRE-WAR) Colorado Springs, CO
6/20 HIGHLAND GAMES
6/23-6/26 GOF – Marshall, MI
6/28-7/1 NAMGBR (MGB) Calgary, Alberta
6/28 SPRING TOUR

Due to the Pandemic, the Driving events we have had to cancel from April to May have been the following:
Spring Tune up, Volo car Museum, Car care Safety Clinic for senior, Spring Tour, Miata Auto Cross I, and the LaGrange Pet parade. WHAT A SHAME!!!
Maybe we can re-schedule some of these events like the Spring tour and Car Care Clinic later this summer.

Let’s see how next month plays out. Maybe we can somehow still plan on some of the driving events scheduled in July: The Lands’ End Rally, Arlington Racetrack, Miata Auto Cross II and Road America Vintage racing are all on July’s calendar. I will reach out to the organizers and talk with the Officers of the club to see where we are at as far as group gatherings and places that may be open with social distancing.

Tim and I have taken advantage of a few nice weekend days and drove our MGB out West to Yorkville Illinois to a beautiful State park called Silver Springs. We hiked a bit and brought sandwiches and lots of water with us. There was a lovely picnic area along a fishing lake in this park. I was thinking maybe we can organize a drive to a State park and bring our lunches. We can socially distance in the picnic area and still enjoy seeing each other and taking in “Nature”!!!!

Ironically, Father’s Day falls on the Summer Solstice day – JUNE 21st!! We should definitely plan a “SUMMER SOLTICE” drive maybe on Saturday June 20th? If anyone wants to step up and plan a gathering/drive for June 20th Saturday, please let me know and we can have Dave Novak “e-mail blast” everyone.

PLEASE BE SAFE AND STAY HEALTHY!!!!!!

Have a fabulous Father’s Day to all you “daddies” and Summer Solstice Day!!!

Safe travels and “MGreetings”

(Continued from page 3)

As you might already know I’ve been having overheating issues with my 77 B V8. After installing a Crossflow radiant and New 30-amp electric fan I thought I’d solved the problem. Things we’re great. Car ran cool never got over 185° I thought I’d fixed the problem. Then it happened while at the grocery store shopping. Parked the B and went in to shop. Now the radiator fan is wired to a thermostat and a relay switch to handle the high amperage. The thermostat starts the fan at 180° and shuts off at 165° so the fan runs even after the car is shut off. But this wasn’t the issue. While we were shopping inside the relay in the fan circuit got stuck in the ‘on’ position! When we came out the radiator fan was still barely running battery nearly dead. Call and my daughter Amy came to the rescue. Call Steve at Advance Auto Wiring and he sent out a 50-amp relay. Hopefully, this will be the solution.

That’s All for this Month….See Ya on the Road
