Changes

Changes are inevitable. As far back as I can remember there have always been changes occurring in my little universe. Some changes were subtle and some changes were a bit more dramatic. Some changes I accepted and some I resisted only to eventually concede to their fate. Hair for instance, now you have it then you don’t. Nature’s cruel joke.

When I was small, the dominant rule of life was; “change your socks and underwear, you never know when you will be in an accident”. Speaking of being small, I am sure my older siblings were not too thrilled with the family dynamics change that occurred when I showed up. Two’s company, three’s a crowd, and as number four I was downright superfluous.

In the automotive world there have always been changes as different marquis tried to compete with one another. Is it form over function, or function over form? Straight edges became rounded edges morphing into fins then straight again. What new design can extract the most money out of the consumer’s pockets? Single headlights were replaced with double headlights then back to single again only to repeat this modification every few years.

In the MG world there were also changes. According to Wikipedia, there are 25 different MG sports car models. All were a result of changes provided to enhance our driving experience. The one constant was the exhilarating feelings these cars provided when cruising down the open road. Especially when pushing them just a hair past their engineered limits.

Now the MG was never designed to be our father’s Ford. And I am not aware of any MG models being mentioned by J D Powers. However, on the fun list they are near the top.

My MG is now 48 years old. Although not particularly known as a champion of quality when it was manufactured, over time all the bugs have been worked out and it is now a joy to drive.

So as we head into this driving season, change your underwear, grab your socks, and hit the road Jack.

Stay safe my friends,

There is never enough time to accomplish the things we need to do and then there’s the stuff we like to do. I’m sure we can all relate, stressful jobs, weekend gigs, children, the house and for a few of us, early morning workouts. Oh, the craziness of it all, if only we had more time!

For those of you with MG’s sitting in your garage I bet your thinking, if only I had a few spare minutes I’d get under the hood and adjust the blank or tinker under the car and work on the blank. Our little cars make us so happy but sometimes we can’t fix their temperamental fussiness and we think what the hell.

I bet some of you didn’t know CMGC has a group of members called the “Traveling Mechanic”. These guys our incredible with their wealth of knowledge, many are skilled mechanics, electricians, body workers and I’m sure other talents not mentioned here. They will come to your home to troubleshoot, fix, replace and buy you a new car if needed…just kidding on the last point. They will guide you so next time it happens you’ll know what to do. To get help on your car simply reach out to one of our staff members and we will direct you to the right mechanic.

Well, enough said, are we ready to have some fun in the sun? I know I’m gearing up to drive my little B out east next month to Atlantic City, NJ. If you can’t make it this year, hopefully, you can participate at next year’s meet. NAMGBR events are a blast, you’ll meet people from all over the country and some may even become your friends for life.

Thank You, stay safe and healthy

~~ Melissa Gonzales
