Chicagoland MG Club: Driveline July 2021

Victor Lheureux
Monthly Meeting Minutes
June 21, 2021

19 Members in ZOOM video meeting

CMGC President Phil Wydra opened the meeting at 7:01 pm. There were no new members joining this evening. Phil introduced Jeff Zorn – owner of Little British Car Company. Jeff’s first dream car in the early 90’s was the MGA and he later purchased a MGB. Jeff noted that he didn’t start the company years ago as a business but rather as a hobby that became a business after merging with George Merryweather in January 1999. His focus is on Customer Service and takes most of the phone calls for orders although prefers email requests. He and his staff provide excellent customer service with a "Personal Touch" and quality classic car parts and accessories always at a "substantially lower" price. Jeff was able to stay on the Zoom call for the remainder of the meeting.

Car projects
Kevin Carlson is currently working on replacing the differential gears after limping home.
Walt Kreitling was having difficulty in opening the boot. Members offered solutions that have worked in the past. Dave Bralich noted the easiest method was to drill a small hole in the pushbutton assembly just below the pushbutton. Using a small tool (e.g 1/8” Allen tool) depress the actuator catch to open the boot. Thanks Dave!

Meeting Minutes - May meeting minutes as written in the Driveline were approved.

Staff Reports
Treasurer's report - Treasurer Jim Compton reported at the staff meeting earlier in the month that the club now has $7,856 in checking, 22,557 in savings for a total of $30,413.
Librarian– Pau Pickley – no report at this time.
Membership – Vic L’Heureux noted that membership increased by 3 members. Currently processing membership renewals.

Driving Event
This year’s driving events are being scheduled in anticipation for a better year. Blackhawk Farms Raceway outing (July 5) should be a nice event – come out to see fellow CMGC member Kevin Carlson on the track. Westmont Cruise Nite (mid-August), Tally-Ho Rally (August) and Halloween Rally (mid-October) are on the schedule. The Arlington Park outing planned for late July has been removed from the calendar – too many restrictions for a Driving event. Dave Bralich noted the British Car Union festival event is a ‘go’ for September at Harper College.

Old Business.
CMGC Website – Progress has been made and a trial mockup is still being tested. The GUI (graphical user interface) - a system of interactive visual components for computer software - is currently being worked on.. A GUI displays objects that convey information and represent actions that can be taken by the user.

New Business
In-person Club Meetings – Starting with the July meeting, we will be meeting at Mr. Beef & Pizza in Mt. Prospect. Notices will go out to the membership via the Tuesday eMail Blast! and noted in the Driveline.

Natter N Noggin’ We will continue having one monthly session on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at Finn McCool's Irish Sports Pub Schaumburg. Dave Bralich volunteered to host the event.

Garage Tour – it was noted that one of the events that hasn’t been organized for several years was the Garage Tour. Walt Kreitling will investigate.

With no further business to discuss, meeting closed at 8:29 pm.

  Respectfully submitted,

  Victor L’Heureux,
CMGC Secretary

Dave Bralich’s solution to the infamous ‘rear boot lock’ failure.

Can’t get your rear boot to open with the pushbutton? Well there are a number of different methods to get around this—many on YouTube — and many methods that work with a lot of luck!

This may sound extreme, but Dave Bralich has that will ultimately work with great success—if you don’t mind defacing your pushbutton assembly.

Dave noted the easiest method was to drill a small hole in the pushbutton assembly just below the pushbutton. Using a small tool (e.g 1/8” Allen tool) depress the actuator catch to open the boot.

Thanks Dave!
