Chicagoland MG Club: Driveline August 2020

books Library Muse

Well it's the end of July and all of the library books have found a home. I have two book cases and a storage bin dedicated to keeping everything safe. Lots of great manuals that I have already had to refer to for electrical opportunities.

I decided to start on a book to help keep me motivated on my 77' MGB Roadster project. The Red Car was the little book that was chosen. This is a great little book about a foolish boy buying a little impractical wrecked MG sports car. He is guided through the process of fixing it up and learning about it from a local mechanic. I can't help but picturing myself as that foolish boy with my current project. That foolishness is just the right amount of fun that keeps us all lively and excited about our own projects. Maybe some of you actually have cars instead of projects. Then again, are we ever done fiddling with these impractical lovely cars?

I also would like to call out my first interaction with the Chicagoland MG Club. I joined the Facebook page first with a picture of my car and a concern with a cracked windshield. I was a bit nervous buying new glass and taking apart the frame to replace the windshield. Right away I got a message from a Facebook member of the club asking if I would desire to just replace the whole frame and windshield all at once. I was able to purchase the whole frame and windshield assembly making the process much easier and cheaper than I anticipated. Thank You, Daniel Smith.

The Red Car
by Don Stanford

This is the story of Hap Adams, a teenage boy who finds a beat-up MG TC sports car, restores it, and learns the joys of sports cars and driving from the town mechanic, Frenchy Lascelle.
