Chicagoland MG Club: Driveline August 2021
Feature Event
(Continued from page 8)

Blackhawk Farms Raceway is a 1.95-mile, 7 turn private circuit racetrack. It is in Rockton Illinois. However, if you missed their signs, you may likely end up somewhere near the Dells.

We watched different cars race around the track in 20-minute heats. There were Porches, Corvettes, Mazda's, and other makes. We happen to be the only MGs in view that day.

For the mere pittance of $5.00, Dave secured us a tour of the track with Kevin acting as our pace car in his stock Hyundai SUV. Even if it wasn’t his MG, Kevin had us racing around the track at a very thrilling speed. For a while, it looked like Melissa was out for blood pushing Victor around the corners.

Later as we strutted around the paddock like veteran racers, we headed over to Dave’s trailer to ogle over his racing equipped MGB. We were greeted by Dave and Dee who gave us a welcoming view into their weekend home when staying at the track. It would have been exciting to have been there the previous day to watch a veteran like Dave race around the track. His car is outfitted with a high-performance engine, no interior or door panels and a windscreen that is only inches tall. Just roll bars, custom racing seat and the necessary racing gauges. It was quite impressive to hear him start it up and pull it into the trailer for the ride home.

Heading home after a great driving day.

I look forward to a return trip to Blackhawk Farms to see our club members really tear up the track and show the crowd what MGs were actually designed for.
