The second Superdawg Drive-in site located in Wheeling

The finish was Superdawg in Wheeling. This is not just your ordinary hot dog joint. How many hot dog stands have 12-foot-tall hot dogs perched atop the roof? And, at night they are flashing in bright neon lighting, known as the “winking weenies.” The original Superdawg drive-in was established in Chicago at the corners of Milwaukee, Devon and Nagel in May of 1948 and is still in existence. Your trayed food order glided to your car by a roller-skating server, exclusively female back-in-the-day. The Wheeling location opened in January 2010. Today, servers still bring your food to the car (or picnic table) but the skates have been replaced with Nike and Adidas. It was and still is the place to be if you have a hot car to show off. Our group proudly accomplished this.

I started to think it was not an official club event since we had no closed roads, detours, or breakdowns. The outing became an official MG event when leaving Superdawg, a loose exhaust pipe required a little wire to hold it in place for the

ride home. We welcomed new club members Greg and Beth to their first car event, warning them of the expected bickering between driver and navigator. They completed the run with smiles and they’re still together. Bravo Greg and Beth. Job well done.
After satisfying our appetites with the one-of-a-kind Superdawg snuggly nested in
between marinated, green tomatoes and salty fries. The tally was counted, and winners announced. The poker hand was won by Jolie & Ken Fredette with an impressive full house. The pot included a six pack of Superdawg beer.
2nd and 3rd place winners—Dave Bralich & Dee Lettieri - Eric & Caroline Gruber

The rally winners were Ric & Nancy Maitzen in first place. Dave Bralich & Dee Lettieri came in second and the third place shot glass went to Eric & Caroline Gruber. Each winning team was rewarded with the coveted shot class with a scratch-off lottery ticket (complete with a coin for scratching) from the hosts.
It was a great day and well done by Route Masters Phil and Sandy.
We all agreed “it was a hoot”!
