YOU FOUND WHAT?

A Labor Day gathering brought Kevin Carlson, Dean Hickenlooper, Bill Kalafat and Steve Knopps to Stephen Skegg’s garage with the task of dismantling a complete 1980 Rover(TR8) engine that ,when restored, will end up in Steve K’s MGB V8 conversion plan.

The engine had been sitting outside in the tropics of Florida for a number of years and was a reservoir of orangey-gooey rust, congealed oil, and an abundance of stagnated water. Dismantling, mostly by Dean and Bill was uneventful until the timing chain covered was removed. Kevin pointed to inside exposed chamber and said “What the heck is that?” That turn out to be a FROG about the size of a quarter- and it was still alive!

Needless to say this was a new experience for us including the much traveled Skegg. The frog was eventually transported to the Willowbrook Wildlife Center whereas hopefully its environment will be more suitable than inside an engine block. (feeding it to Steve’s chickens was an option).

MGA Restoration—Project progress…

I obtained an UNASSEMBLED MGA a while ago and finally it made its way into the shop to work on the frame. The photos show what I have accomplished so far.

The wife (Kerry) always wanted one sooooo....... happy wife happy life -- get to it!
