11/16/98 MEETING REPORT
Maynard Hirsch, Diana
Gonzales, Steven Selan and Sharon Anderson called the meeting to
order at 8:10 P.M.
47 members were present;
3 new members and guests attended the meeting (Kevin Anderson, Parker
Whiteway, and Andre Carr).
OLD BUSINESS
Engine Pulling Party:
Ray and Madge Van Tassle reported on the successful extraction of
the engine from their MGB which is now in the process of being rebuilt.
They are looking for members to help in the reinstallation and promise
plenty of beer and good eats for all who assist. Date to be announced.
Mercy Home for Boys:
George Goeppner, who is coordinating our model drive, has reported
that over 70 models have been donated and will be dropped off at
the Home in time for Christmas. We are trying to coordinate a model
show at a future meeting some time after the first of the year where
the boys can show off the fruits of their labor. Stay tuned.
Fall Tune-Down Party:
Jim Evans announced that 15 cars participated at his shop in preparation
for the winter--if and when it ever comes. The Club thanks Jim for
the use of his facilities
NEW BUSINESS
Nominations for Officers:
Club Secretary, Steve Selan, reported that no new names had been
placed in nomination for any office, despite his pleas for volunteers
at the meeting. Pursuant to the Club constitution, nominations are
closed, and ballots will be included in the December Driveline.
Vote often and early!
Champaign British
Car Festival:
Will be held May 28-30. The featured car will be the MGV8; the convention
hotel will be Jumer's Castle Lodge in Champaign. For information
contact Gary Brown at 309-663-5372. Mark your calendars and make
your reservations early. We're back... maybe?
BMW has announced
that their Rover nameplate may re-import an MG-series vehicle, an
Austin Healy Sprite, and an Austin Mini. These vehicles will be
sold at stand-alone facilities bearing the Rover nameplate within
the next five years. Keep your fingers and toes crossed.
Annual Business Meeting
and Awards Banquet:
Sharon Anderson announced that you should mark your calendars for
Sunday, February 7, 1999 and plan to attend the Annual Business
Meeting and Awards Banquet. It will be
held at Superossa in Woodridge, Illinois.
Christmas Party:
Final preparations for the December 5, 1998 Christmas Party were
discussed The event to be held at the 94th Aero Squadron Restaurant
in Wheeling. A large turnout is hoped for.
Swap Meet:
Jim Evans reported that applications for booths at the Swap Meet
are coming in quickly. We may have to rent a second building if
we get many more vendors. He is looking for vendors who are willing
to sell tools, auto supplies, and books to help balance out the
current list of vendors who appear to be mostly used parts dealers.
Any leads please give Jim a call.
Board of Directors
Meeting:
At the last Board of Directors meeting it was decided that all future
board meetings will be open to the general membership and announced
in advance. However, members will not be allowed to vote. At the
last Board of Directors meeting money was allocated to Dave Bralich,
Club Librarian, to spend $250 on new books and videos and $500 to
Toolmaster Jim Evans for additions to the tool chest. The expenditures
were unanimously approved by the general membership.
Secretary's Report:
Steve Selan was proud to announce that for the first time in Club
history, club membership exceeded 300 members. He also announced
that the new membership roster will be printed and mailed some time
during the month of December. There will be many surprises in this
new publication.
Web Site Report:
Webmaster Scott Anderson indicated that the web site is up and running
with plenty of space available for individual home pages and personal
e-mail addresses for Club members, if they should desire. Contact
Scott for further information.
Car Restoration Seminar:
Jim Evans announced that after New Year's on Sundays he will begin
the restoration of his blue rubber bumper MGB at his shop in Naperville.
Club members are invited to come, watch, learn, and maybe even help.
Call Jim at his shop before you go out.
Annual Winter Excursion:
Jake and Ann Snyder announced that this year's annual
train trip will be to St. Louis on January 23rd-24th via Amtrak.

50-50 Raffle:
Won by John MacLean.
Evening Program:
Maynard Hirsch gave an exhausting lecture on MG mufflers.
