CMGC Has Loaner Tools Available
by Jim Evans,
Club Toolmaster
One of the best-kept
secrets in this club is the tool loan program that is available
to all members. This program was started many years ago with the
intent of providing members with access to tools that most members
would not want to purchase because of the tool's expense and/or
limited use. The first acquisition was the club engine hoist, and
the second was the club MIG welder, both of which fit that description.
One further selection criteria is that club's tools should be suited
to MG's and also to amateur mechanics. For that reason, the welder
and a third acquisition (the plasma cutter) are both 110v models,
and the hoist is a knock-down unit that can actually be transported
in an MGB!
Borrowing club tools
is like checking out a book from the library with a few additional
rules: Tools must be returned within a reasonable time regardless
of the progress on your project. Tools may not be used by anyone
other than a club member. And tools must be used only on the borrower's
MG. And, NO, you may not keep the tool for as long as you like until
someone else wants it as this would be the quickest way for us to
lose track and/or possession of these investments. In order to borrow
a tool, contact the club Toolmaster (see inside front cover of the
newsletter). The tool program is scheduled for expansion in the
next few months, so let us know if there is some item that you would
like to see added to the inventory.
Current loaner items
are: engine hoist, MIG welder, plasma cutter and engine stand.
