June Autocross June 25,2006
Deb was right again, I don't have enough sense to come in out of the rain. But I'm not the only one. Five other intrepid souls came out on a rainy Sunday morning to participate in our June 25th autocross at AMC Theaters in Warrenville. It had been raining on and off the night before but it was only cloudy when we started to set up. However, by the time we completed the set up and got the timing gear running, it started to rain again.
As they say in the old country, it was a fine soft morning. But seeing as how this isn't NASCAR we weren't about to let a little water stop us. As agreed, we each did four timed laps. By then the weather started to clear, so after a half hour break we each had a go at another two trips around the circuit. Then we retired to the local to dry our outsides and wet our insides. The best time for each driver is recorded below. Some of the times were better in the wet (w) than the later laps when the lot was only damp (d).
Larry Drummond 46.779(w) Audi Quattro
Barney Gaylord 49.006(w) MGA
Bill Greenwald 49.908(d) Lotus 7
Wilbur Mennell 49.930(w) Chrome MGB
Wade Keene 50.054(d) Chrome MGB
Clark Childress 54.816(d) Rubber MGB
My thanks to Wade for letting me use his car while mine was away on vacation. Wilbur
