Import Night, Downers Grove
August 9, 2002
Throughout the summer, the western suburb of Downers Grove has a Friday night classic car show. At these shows, anyone with an antique, restored, customized, or just different car is invited to park in downtown Downers Grove and show their car off. This summer, the response of car lovers has been fantastic. On the average, about 350 vehicles of all shapes and sizes appear. In addition, there is a theme for each week’s show such as luxury cars, air cooled cars, imports, orphaned cars, Corvettes, etc. etc. On August 9 it was Import night.
The turnout for the designated theme area was beyond expectations. The Healy club brought 5 big healy’s and at least one "bug eye" sprite. One of our members brought his 49 MGTC, Bill Hedrick was there with his Midget, and I was there with my 1975 MGB and my 1969 Austin Mini. We all had a great time talking about our imports and explaining to the spectators just what we had brought to the show.
If you plan on attending this great Friday evening event, you’d better hurry, because the last show is on September 6. This Friday (the 16th) the theme is Chevrolet, the 23rd it is Orphaned cars (MG’s count in this country don’t they?) and on the 30th it’s Corvette with the final week 2002 trophy winners (whatever that means, as there are no trophies given out at these events).
